Connect The Dots 20 Tales Of Innovation And Passion!

For people who have read " Stay Hungry Stay Foolish ", Rashmi Bansal ' s second book " Connect the Dots " is a share on the identical set of concept - successful entrepreneurs - however this time debutante talks about all of 20 people who did not have a management degree, unlike the first one, seat blonde talked about those who had a management degree ( IIM - A ) to be precise. Rashmi has divided her book into three classifications and they do a lot of good to the forgiving its Jugaad, Junoon and Zubaan!! So now the book unfolds, her stories about successful people fall into these categories for the type of business that they are into, and how they fell into it, their triumphs and travails, and blazes of glory!!

Jugaad in Hindi roughly means innovational fix and that is positively what is plant in 9 out of the 20 stories that fall into this clot. Business is experimental for a blend of experimentation, observation and accordingly fixing the problems, plugging the holes and applying the thinker! If there is a hindrance, further your mind ( and not rocket science ), do an innovative fix to the obstacle and move on! So the Jugaad stories cover the this line of thought of all those 9 inspiring people who without any formal training in the field of business continued making fixes here and there, with a little application of mind and some spirituality, to become successful entrepreneurs.

Junoon or Passion based stories are a set of 7 people on who had a passion for an idea and went with a drive to fulfill that. These are people whose love for their dream made them pursue it. For an Example ( and this is a personal favorite ) the story of the making of the electric car Reva. Chetan Maini had or rather has, if I may correct myself, a passion for everything electronics and cars. He dreamt of an electric car and decided to pursue his dream. He followed his passion and went on to form the Reva Electric Car Company ( very recently taken over by Mahindra & Mahindra ) making it the worlds best selling electric car. The enterprise value of Reva is now over US$100 million!!

Zubaan here is an Expression or Language, much to do with creativity. Talent does pay is what these stories talk about; one needs the ability to convert the talent into a business proposition. One story in turn is very inspiring and we have seen a lot of his venture in recent reality shows on Indian television. Krishna Reddy and his Prince Dance Group, is a story of how a daily wage earner with an interest and passion for contemporary Dance brought together some more daily labourers to form his group, practised on the beaches on Orissa and appeared on the hotly competitive Indias Got Talent reality show. Their performance was truly mind - blowing having seen it myself and also voted for them! With the prize money they earned, he has now formed his own school of dancers who go around performing worldwide and inspiring young talent from the lower strata families!

Rashmi has brought together these real life stories to inspire and it really does. Now this is a challenge for all those who are not MBAs and those who are and aim to take up the course! In all, I would recommend that everybody reads itthe tale of these 20 ordinary people with extraordinary will to make be successful despite all odds, is truly inspiring.

Innovation and Story Telling

One of the skills that is identified thanks to being critical to success in business through hearty since innovation is the art of story - telling.

A story is developed to grab people ' s attention thanks to whole because their imagination. It seeks to communicate what the teller is saying in a way that engages the hearer. In the perfect story... the one reasonableness or reading it becomes part of it.

Regularly when something is conceived that is all artistic there is no real history to backing it. Level with all of the market analysis and research you still have to get over the initial risk and resistance in order to resource.

And that is when the art of story - telling can fuel innovation. Making people become part of the beginning by showing them the end in a way that they can see themselves as a part of it.

Innovation is much more a conversation that is moderated than it is a process to be managed. In that sense it is the same as marketing. We tend to accept what people say about innovation being somewhat mysterious, but it really doesn ' t have to be that way.

All of what we are able to do starts with the way we think. We either think that we can, or that we can ' t. We think something can be done, or that it can ' t.

When we use our imagination to make new combinations we suspend judgement on the rules that are set in place around the norms.

In order to bring something completely novel ( or just novel to a new group ) the advantage will come in how we are able to communicate our thoughts... how we are able to transfer what we are thinking into their minds so that they can " own " them and begin to think on them.

People will always be more likely to perceive that what they are thinking is possible and less likely to believe that what someone else is thinking is.

The most crafted " tale teller " will be able to plant the seed in the mind of others... and together bring it to pass.

And this is where the art of story telling becomes critical. We need to learn how to tell a good story, so that people can relate to it.

Three things you have to consider are these:

1. The story needs to be about the hearer, not the speaker.

2. The hero of the story needs to be the hearer, not the speaker.

3. The story needs to portray the hero as facing setbacks, but overcoming them.

Innovation is a process. Often we can not see the end so clearly. But if we can craft the story in such a way as to have the one we need to be supporting this innovation journery as a hero, as an overcomer, then we increase our chances of success.

Why?

Because people will be able to go after what they see.

Learn to tell a good a story... and you will increase your chances of innovation
