Each week on Christmas morning, when it is time to get together around the Christmas tree to ajar gifts, the first entity my children do is spread for their Christmas stockings. They cannot resist the fluffy redness stocking lined with chalky fur that is husky to the limits with arcane little gifts and candies. In order to answer that question, I decided to do some research and I found that there are several possible stories behind the Christmas stocking. No one is exactly sure which story, if any, is true. However, the most accepted story entails a man whose wife had passed away and left him with three daughters to take care of. He was not a rich man and he was worried that even though his daughters were kind and gentle, they would never get married because he could not afford to pay their dowries.

One day St. Nicholas, also known as Saint Nicholas of Myra, was walking through town and overheard the townspeople talking about the mans dilemma with his three daughters. St. Nicholas wanted to help but he knew that the man would never willingly accept money from him. So he waited until it was dark and went to the mans home and dropped three bags of gold down the chimney, one for each girl.

It just so happened that the girls had washed their laundry that evening and had hung their stockings by the fireplace to dry. When St. Nicholas dropped the bags of gold down the chimney they landed in the girls stockings. When the girls woke up the next morning and went to get their stockings they discovered more than enough gold to pay for each of their dowries. Each girl then got married and lived happily ever after. Once word spread of how the girls had found gold in their stockings, everyone started hanging their stockings by the fireplace in hopes that they would be as fortunate.

While we do not hang our laundered stockings or socks by the chimney to dry, most of us do honor the Christmas tradition of hanging a stocking on Christmas Eve. The biggest difference is that now our stockings are made in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and textures and they are made especially for use as Christmas stockings. Instead of putting gold in the stockings, we put special gifts in them. If we are really bad during the year, we might just get a lump of coal instead of gifts.

I am intrigued by the fact that what may be an old wives tale could create such a wonderful tradition as Christmas stockings. The story of the father and his three daughters started a tradition that is now as much a part of Christmas as Santa himself. Christmas just would not be the same without Christmas stockings.

It ' s the story of the Rail Splitter, who worked hard to earn money and help his family, and who spent his evenings studying and reading by the light of a fireplace in order to better himself.

The images throughout are perfect for the young reader. Pictures of Lincoln as a child offering fish to a soldier, or seeing him as the Postmaster, or a store clerk, help young readers identify with Lincoln. His defense of the underdog, and compassion for animals is well illustrated. This version includes a photograph of a replica of the tiny cabin in which Lincoln was born that really illustrates how small the cabin was; the whole cabin isn ' t much bigger than most bedrooms.

These images have an impact on young people; pictures of Lincoln reading and studying by fire light, or splitting rails, or reading to his son, Tad, etc, are images that I still recall from my own childhood.

The images necessary to tell about the Civil War are quite tame. They convey the story without being graphic. The images are mostly black and white sketches, with some color images; there are a few actual photographs that were gleaned from other sources, including an actual picture of Lincoln visiting Union troops.

Several of the music selections are Civil War songs that are played by an orchestra, in the original, authentic instrumentation and style of the Civil War. They sound very much as they did in 1865.

The story of Abraham Lincoln is the story of America; the story that anyone can attain greatness, and make a difference, if they are honest, and hard working, and have the desire, all of which Abraham Lincoln possessed.

Since this is an antiquarian work, the style and prose of the post - Victorian era in which it was produced, lend a certain flare, and drama, that is not present in many modern biographies. It adds a certain quaintness that is pleasant, and fun to read because it is far detached from our modern American era history.

This is a fine book for a young persons first time exposure to the life of Abraham Lincoln.

A sad romantic story consist the benign of plot that touches a million lives around the world. This is over it talks more about what life can bring in materiality more than narrative or happy ending ones do. When it comes to fairy tales, you can never find something thats not happy in the end. Most movies to have a closing that leaves people laughing and smiling but this surely doesnt show that much resemblance to what happens in our everyday lives. Among all the lonely movies that were released, some of them were commended and known to leave a mark in the hearts of people.

Have you watched true to life based sad love movies that made you cry? Out of all the stories that were shown in the cinemas or any other places where people could watch them, what really made it to the top like no other sad movie did was Titanic. If you have watched this before, you will totally agree with how heartbreaking this story is. The characters Jack and Rose had to depart after the ship was struck by an iceberg which eventually brought it down into the sea. Jack saved Roses life and that really touched the heart of so many people around the globe. Another movie that got people crying is entitled A Walk to Remember where the main character named Jamie died of Lukemia. It was a sad story because of how she died and how the time was never enough for them to be together.

Talking about each sad romantic story that Ive mentioned makes me recall how much of a lonely plot they were made of. These sad love movies are and will always be remembered for the rest of history because they have made everyone respond to them in all sorts of ways.
